Become a Structural Editing Specialist

Elevate your editing skills with Fictionary’s comprehensive course. Our step-by-step approach will guide you to become an exceptional structural editor.

Course Format and Timeline

Phase 1: Independent Learning (Now–February)

Your journey begins with 10 self-paced modules covering structural editing fundamentals and Fictionary’s 38 Story Elements.

You will also be invited to join a private chat group with your instructor, Kristina Stanley, and fellow learners. Collaborate, ask questions, and form lasting connections.

Phase 2: Live classes (Mar 13–Apr 10, Thurs, 12pm ET)

With your foundations in place, you will be ready to dive deeper into the structural editing framework through live, interactive classes. You can ask questions and apply what you learn by practicing techniques on the example manuscript each week.

Phase 3: Manuscript Edit

To become a Fictionary Certified StoryCoach editor, you must complete a full StoryCoach Edit of the example manuscript and submit it for assessment.

Assessment

Once you submit your manuscript edit, instructors will evaluate and give feedback on your:

Scene-by-Scene Notes
Inline Changes and Comments
Story Elements

You’ll be assessed on:

Objectivity
Comprehensiveness
Attitude toward your client
The actionable nature of the advice
Use of the Fictionary Story Elements within the StoryCoach software
